Just for fun - thinking about your horse's genetic make-up - do you have pics from his/her pedigree, to illustrate where his/her best qualities come from?

For example - here are a couple of the sources of Tobago's movement (Muscat and King Cotton Gold)...

muscat.jpg

KINGCOTTONGOLD.jpg

...and his type (Padron and Padrons Psyche)...

PADRON.jpg

psyche.jpg

....a lot of his 'show attitude/presence' comes from this chap (Bey Shah)...

bey_shah.jpg

...and so on...

Anyone else got some examples from your favourite horse's pedigree? Not just a flimsy excuse to show some pretty pics - I really find this quite fascinating and educational as well! Would love to see some examples from other breeds...

! Nah Im kidding, he is a lovely pony really certainly has his Mum's look & he does have his Dad's scope - but God knows where the attitude problem came from!

Well I'll do William as he's the one I know most about:

He's by
Tracy X

Out of Woodlark:

img041.jpg

That's her as a just broken 3yo on the left, with her own mother, Whisper, on the right.

Wood;lark was by Athelstan, who was by The Convert and out of a TBxClydesdale mare.

Whisper (Kendal Caprice) was by Night Thought and out of Willow.

This is Whisper competing, she was 15hh:

And this is Willow (who was TB x exmoor):

Not such good photos as yours htobago I'm afraid.

Another interesting horse I had, Fabuleax du Fief:

img037.jpg

I was once asked if he was an Uriel, and indeed he is F's grandfather, so I looked him up on allbreedpedigree and it is uncanny how similar their heads are, as he is to his own dad:

This is F's dad

and this is Uriel

Il do Archie: Odermus R x Ilona

Archie i think gets markings from Odermus R:

Archie:

Odermus R

And he has a massive shoulder, which i think he gets from Calido:

Calido

I dont have any picture from his dams side, but i know shes bay, which will be why hes a mixture of grey and bay!

i know, its quite scary how similar their markings are!

And yes he should jump, dosent mean he will tho

if he enjoys his loose jumping on the weekend and i get on with Lottie then il take him to her more regularly and have some proper jumping lessons with her too

This is fun!

This is Oskar: [image]

He gets his movement and shoulder/neck from his sire, Polansky:
polansky2.jpg

He takes a lot of his compactness and size from his dam's side; her sire was Utrecht (I can't find a photo of him I can post), but she is from Ladykiller and Erdball lines:
ladykiller.jpg

Henry is a differnt type to all the above!! But still interesting I think! Henry's Dad, Royston Mascot (full Shire):

roystonmascot.jpg

Henry gets his size, neck, head, bone - pretty much everything from his Dad!

And Mum was a coloured cob named Dolly - she really only gave Henry his patches! This is her with baby Henry, aged one day:

And Henry (with hogged forelock last summer!):

And now:

Isn't this fun?!

Loving all the pics - you really can see where a lot of their qualities come from.

I forgot to put Tobago himself in my post so here he is:

tobagomalvern0122-1.jpg

Tobagomalverntrot1.jpg

And here's one of the main sources of good conformation/structure/substance in his pedigree (maternal grandmother Queens Topaz):

QUEENSTOPAZ.jpg

and going further back in his Crabbet/Old English lines, Oran:

ORAN5.jpg

And yet another source of type/movement, his Daddy Psytadel:

psytadel.jpg

And his dam Teeba:

Teebatrotting.jpg

Beauty and type go waaay back - this is one of his ancestors born in 1881, Amurath:

Amurath1881-th.jpg

On the down-side, maybe he gets his loud-mouth tendencies from this chap, Patron, his great great grandsire:

More piccies pleeeease - I'd love to see some pics and genotype-thoughts from Opie/HG/Volatis/Anastasia....

Goodness, it's not that common to find Westside Mirah get over the sea! Fabulous sire though - love the one by him I know.

her dam was also mouse dun, but turned grey. I think she has a lot from her sire's line

Love Emerald's daddy! You're right - she looks much more like him than like her mum.

Also really like that stally Atlantus in Hector's pedigree SN!

I've just found another nice pic of Tobago's daddy Psytadel:

psytadelcanter.jpg

and here's another one of his dam, Teeba:

Reynold's 'Daddy' (doing lovely extended trot at Addington) looks weirdly like a Danish-bred Connemara stallion I once owned -- so just wondered who it is ...

Back now from Malta and glad I didn't appear to miss too much whilst I was away, apart from the ECHA thread of course, but interestingly I did recieve some messages and calls whilst away asking me if I knew who they were and which country's Min of Ag they were approved by (if any) but from the web site it looks as though its the German FN, but they have no Danish approval althogh grading there already.

One person even thought they were Swiss which wouldn't please Opie! Glad I can disabuse them of that!

Funny you should say that watcher - people keep telling me Tobago has a 'foal-face'; that his head still looks babyish, even as a 3yo (he's 3 in that picture)...
smile.gif

It's partly cos his head is small, but also cos it's stayed very short, and broad across the forehead. Arab breeders like short heads - one breeder next year is using Tobago specifically to shorten the head on her mare, who has a beautiful face, but a little bit too long.

He is still wearing the same show-bridle he had as a yearling - you can see from these two pics that the rest of him has grown but his head has stayed pretty much the same:

(Golly- you can't make a simple little throwaway comment round here without me milking it to death in a photo-essay - sorry! I'll shut up for a bit now.

)

Oooh - beautifully bred Arab! Is it yours rforsyth? Lovely pedigree - all Murray/Headley breeding, with the wonderful Aussie stallion Bremervale Emperor, imported by Foxbury. I love all those Old English 'Gold' lines (my first Arab was by General Gold, grandsire of Shogun). Mmmm - and you have a lovely Courthouse line in there as well, through Benjamin.

To find pics, click on 'Reports' in the top bar, then scroll down to click on 'Photos' - a whole load of photos should come up. You can then save individual photos to your PC, upload them to photobucket or whatever you use, and post them on here!

Would love to see a bigger pic of your Arab - assuming this is the one in your avatar?

Not the best photos im afraid, I must get round to scanning in some more dressage/showing pics!
Had him 10 years now, done a bit of everything with him, showing, dressage, XC, HT, WH. A very genuine and fun horse and would probably make a cracking jumper with a less wimpy rider!
