People had asked me to report back on my lesson so here goes

I had a lesson with Geoff yesterday on my rather gangly 17HH 5 year old Oldenburg Gelding

He has only been jumping and cantering a couple of months, so still very green.

We have done a couple of 80cm BS classes and he has done nice steady rounds.

Please not comments ripping me death as some H&Her's tend to do, i know all my riding faults - thats what i was paying Geoff to tell me and help me correct them, along with all the other lessons i get

I enjoyed the lesson, we worked over very low fences, trying to work on balance, turning and keeping a nice forward steady canter.

Anyway a couple of videos for you to have a looky at :-)

Please tell me how you got in contact with him? Where did you have your lesson? A friend and I have been dying to have a lesson!

Hello

He was up doing a demo and we managed to get a lesson from him before hand. I'm not sure where you live but he is at Gleneagles in Scotland start of Dec with Oliver T if you ask nicely I'm sure you he would give you a lesson before hand if he has time.

He seems a really nice man.

Thanks Emma, yeah I love him, second to none temperament , very honest too. Never even looked a fence let alone consider stopping , in fact he very easy to deal with all round - his only downside - he can buck, massive powerful bucks but they getting few and far between now so that's good

Taking it slow on him as he has ALOT of growning and maturing still to do. That's why he only just started jumping at 5 1/2 I felt he was not strong enough.

The bigger ones always need a bit longer than these nippy little ponies anyway! My mare is six and due to not being in ridden work constnatly ever she's only ever popped a few and I'll start her jumping properly this spring :) slowly slowly catchy monkey. He must be a lot of horse to hold together! I'd probably of wee'd if I'd been sat on 17hh of boucy pony

Lucky you!

Was was he like as an instructor? Do you feel like you learnt a lot from him?

I have a lesson with him early next year and quite excited after seeing your videos!

Ha ha I'm 5ft 10"

Yeah he is and has a massive bounching canter stride , I often feel like I'm being rag dolled by him.

Missmac

I don't think I learnt a lot but then I don't think that's possible from 1 lesson when they don't know you or horse. I certainly got a insight on what he would be doing with a young horse like Ludo, so I will follow his advice . He is all for not rushing young horses in first 12 months of them jumping, never ever putting them in a jump off against the clock etc, told me to work over small fences and poles to establish rhythem and being able to turn, getting him to listen to me and learn to move off the leg forwards and sidewards. And some other tips about my riding things I need to work on

Actually when I read that back , it does sound like quite a lot, so yeah maybe I did learn a descent amount from him. Watching him ride a youngster too was useful to me.

Im having my lesson the day after his demo so im hoping to pick up some tips beforehand too.

I've had a few years off jumping (either me or horses injured!) But have recently got a new boy so im keen to get jumping and competing again so im hoping this will be a big shove in the right direction!

Well done OP, he does look very bouncy ! But a lovely sort

Have to say, thought your friends commentary was great!!

Look forward to the updates:D

What a beauty :D

When he has finished maturing he is going to be a craker, very jel as Oldenburg's are my fave breed :D

My boy took until he was 9yo to mature mental and physically, but he awas the best horses ever and worth all the blood, sweat and tear's.

Look forward to some updated's x

Asha - yes my friends are very complimentary of my riding skills ha ha bunch of witches they are :-)

Yeah Oldenburg27 - vet told me I won't see the best of him till at least he is 8, he got very sturdy long legs, his body is way behind, do much filling out to do, but I happy to give him the time. He was a awesome temperament :-)
