So we had a bit of an uber drama. I was away with work (where I subsequently almost crashed my car, lost my debit card, and broke my phone with all my contact details and diary in it... it hash;t been a good week), and Geoff had lost a shoe. My farrier texted my (broken) phone, which came through to my computer, saying he would be round to put the shoe on, which my dad picked up for me.

THANKFULLY my very non-horsy Mum, who hadn't even been to my new yard, braved the elements armed with an email description of which one was my horse... Yes, I bought her flowers.

Farrier arrived, very grumpy as I had forgotten to tell Dad to CONFIRM with him. Also pointed out to my mum that he was walking funny because of an abscess, not having a lost shoe. Thankfully farrier dug it out, and my Mum even attempted a hot poultice on his foot (with some help).

A few days later and all the swelling is down, and he galloped up to the gate of the injury paddock this morning for his breakfast, so think he is feeling better. Him and my Mum have totally bonded too - she said he 'gave her a cuddle', and she looked me out some apples to take to him. It's very sweet.

Whilst I'd never wish an abscess on any horse, I'm not too bothered about not riding in the horrible weather tbh... and Geoff, on individual turnout whilst he's lame, is enjoying getting as much hay as he likes without being chased by the herd leaders - he is neighing with excitement every time he sees me fill a haynet now...

Just fingers crossed he is sound for the clinic we had booked for next Friday...?

Also interesting - just seen two friends' Facebook posts regarding abscesses over the last few days. Is there actual links to abscesses occurring more frequently in weather like this? I'd assumed G's was due to the TWO SHOES he pulled in FIVE DAYS (he has been getting bullied a bit and keeps standing on himself), but my friend tells me this is 'abscess weather'?
