George went off to the vets today for an MOT - his heart and lungs are fine but they suspect a partially collapsed trachea as he really heaves when he breathes, particularly under stress.

I’ve suspected something like this from watching him over the past week - it isn’t helped by him still trying to strangle himself on a walk (our ‘do not pull on a lead’ lessons are a work in progress) but even when he is loose running in the dog field his breathing isn’t great.

So I need to find him a harness instead of a collar..... what on earth do small terriers wear? 😂 I have no clue what sort to get him.....

He is 8kg and sort of shaped like a barrel 😂 (it rained when we were in the dog field today)

UPDATE - don’t worry I’ve got him a Halti instead! So it’s just a cute George picture 😄

P dog (currently 7.3kg) has the Trixie premium touring harness, its 3.5 yrs old now and still going strong. Has reflective stuff on it too. Not worn daily tho, only when am walking out from work at lunchtime or away from the yard etc, so prob 3 to 5 times a week. Washes well. I got the larger of the 2 smallest ones and the straps are shortened to almost max in the summer, but I thought the clips were more robust, but wasnt expensive anyway.
Happy to recco :)

Stanley is 8.3Kg and has a Hutta harness. I find its robust but well padded, he doesn't pull at all in it and now if i know we are going to be off lead for most of the time I can just cli his lead to his collar as he doesn't pull at all.

We just got our corgi x cockapoo a harness today. We got one last week but although it fitted, it didn’t fit as well as we wanted. She’s a barrel and very long. Took it back and got another today from pets at home. I’ll double check but I think it was an ezy dog with chest plate. Fits really well.

Collapsed trachea?! 😕 poor George! I bought him a harness, just a cheapo one off t’internet, as I was concerned about his breathing when he pulled on the lead - and I don’t like using a flexi lead/trailing long line with a collar, as it yanks them horribly when they get to the end of the flexi or the rope gets caught on something.

The one I ordered for him was too small (jack russell sized) obvs 🙄 so he borrowed Frank’s instead for walks. I use it as Frank’s seatbelt though, so couldn’t send it with George!

I hope he accepts the halti... Frank wouldn’t tolerate one at all, but but settled happily enough in a figure of 8 rope lead, just for an idea of something similar to try if the halti doesn’t work out.

Poor little dude, is that why his bark sounds so weird? Or is that just his voice?! When I collected him from the dogs home he had almost completely lost his voice - not necessarily a bad thing, for the old ear drums/sanity 😬

Yep I thought there was something not quite right with him - that’s why he sounds like a seal! - so I took him along to be checked out just in case it was heart or lungs. He was such a good boy 😊 Vet said he will hopefully be fine, but keep a close eye on it

Oh wow. Poor George, I wonder how long he’s been like that. He had that seal bark when I first found him running about in the road. His old owners had him in a very thin half-check collar, which I imagine would have exacerbated the issue (if he ever got walked on it..!). I feel guilty now for not picking it up 😭 I just thought it was how he was 🙈 poor little lad!

i really rate the zero dc harness (canix so no windpipe probs if the right size)and would not use any other headcollar than a SWAG.
after J had a lump removed from using a gentle leader hc i considered them all and the swag has the lead attached behind the head so you can walk either side. just my opinion but i think the under chin ones can cause shoulder/neck wonkyness. x

The only harness I recommend for general use is the perfect fit harness from dog games. It is fleece lined and comes in 3 parts so you can get the size right.
Obviously harnesses used for sports such as tracking and canicross are more specialist.
