Hey all just thought i would give you an update on georges trip to the vets. you may have read my post on our fears that george could have a kissing spine. I couldnt attend as I was work but mum went so what im writing here is pretty much what she has told me.
First things first the vet got his case file detailing all his history to do with his bone spavin in his hocks. He did a flexio test and george was sound in front, 2/1o lame on left hind and 1/10 lame on his right hind. The vet said he recommends we get his hocks injected again soon as its now two years since they were last done - he was pretty impressed with them actually considering how long it had been since the joint was last injected
Then, onto an examination of his back. Mum said he examined his spine and came to the conclusion we could rule out kissing spine as there was no reaction whatsoever. He did however find a VERY sore area on the left hand side of georges wither. Mum said he reacted pretty badly to the pressure! As an experienced horse owner i feel guilty for not spotting things like this
The vet so far is not sure wether this is related to hock pain ie george compensatng for himself and hurting his back in the process. He has given us 10 days worth of bute and george is to be off work for 2 weeks. He will then return to the vets. The vet said if when he examines him again it is still painful he is going to x-ray his wither area and ultrasound the area to see if we can get any answers, his hocks will also be injected again then too. Thinking about it, i guess the violent (occasional) broncing on landing could be due to wither pain, ie if he jumps a certain way it may just twinge on landing? who knows? So, a rather mixed day, great news there is no kissing spine. Not so great news on the unexplained wither pain
