So some of you may have seen my previous post on a thread about my friends brother who has two entire working lines dogs and doesn’t walk them enough, plus has a toddler and a small house..

Well, no surprise here they have admitted that their German Shepherd needs a new home as they can’t manage him and I think the two entires are starting to make a bid for dominance. He is 1yo and really has nothing wrong with him apart from the fact that he is under stimulated, undertrained and still has his balls. Super clever and motivated, not destructive - just needs a proper owner.

I have asked for a photo, but he is similar in looks to Moobli’s dogs.

I have been asked to see whether I can find him a home, and I know that there are some brilliant owners on here, so thought it would be worth a message. I am located in Sussex, can travel. Please PM me if you would like any more info.

Has he contacted the breeder ? Any decent breeder should take back or at least help to rehome the dog. Hopefully Moobli may be able to help, if not try contacting German Shepherd Welfare, they are probably the best rescue/rehoming group. Some are definitely to be avoided. :(

Thank you MM. They were't keen on my suggestion of back to breeder unfortunately as they want to know who he is going to, I think the GS Welfare would likely be met with the same resistance.
My Aunt's friend has lost her dog and may be looking for another, so that could be a potential route. I just want to try and find him a good home, as I know the current owner is also floating the idea with his idiot, status driven mates and he's a wonderful dog who deserves so much better.

A one year old working line GSD (as a large, late maturing breed) still having his balls isn't a bad thing IMO. It's a training/management issue, not an anatomical/hormonal one. Hope he can get sorted!

Completely agree - I meant more that the balls were an issue when they have two entires in the house both reaching sexual maturity/teenagehood - and aren't experienced owners plus have a littlun.
Thank you! Fingers crossed.

That's a shame, was the breeder less than desirable , otherwise I don't see why they think they wouldn't know where the dog went. I helped rehome an 8 year old dog I had bred at the very start of lockdown and the old and new owner are in constant contact and have a What's app group to share photos. I hope the right home turns up for this lad, the last thing a young working line male needs is to be owned by status driven idiots.

I'm not sure who the breeder is, but they sold a working lines GSD to a young couple with evidently very little dog knowledge or experience, who live in a small home, with another entire dog and a less than 1 yr old child - I wouldn't have thought a reputable person would have done this, but I might be wrong!

Think I may have found a good match with an older couple, dogs all their lives, no children who have just lost their dog - so fingers crossed the meeting goes well!

Bumping cos I’m nosy: how was the meeting?

I haven’t heard yet, but I do know that the GSD has now bitten the top level idiot girlfriend - no open wound but bad bruising, so concerns for toddler have made them keen to move on with the rehoming which is good and bad. It will have been her fault but I’m loathe to push for info on the meeting as I don’t want them to not come back to me if it doesn’t go well!

4 months ago I would have torn your hand off (also in Sussex and lost our GSD x Rottie in 2019); hope the rehoming goes well! Southern Counties German Shepherd rescue are worth a call, too. That's where we got our girl, and they must have waiting lists of vetted/checked homes. Nice young dog needs a knowledgeable big dog home and will thrive!

Highest bidder made them go and get the dog at 3am this morning as he was barking in the night - who would have thought it? A scared and anxious 1yo dog would bark. She then texted me to ask about the good home I had lined up and would she pay?! I honestly can’t believe it.
I said you have let my potential home down twice last minute for someone online who would pay you, I’m not asking again as she has just lost her GSD and has found it really upsetting and no she won’t pay, and sent her the southern GSD rescue mentioned up thread and asked her to do the right thing. She won’t. I wish I could help more, I feel like I’m letting the dog down. I’ve been up since 4:30 stressing about it. I so wish I could just go over there and take the dog but have 2x cats at mums and OH lives in a flat and we work full time.

Thanks SD - I have recommended the rescue that MissTYC mentioned up thread, at this point that's all I can really do.

The dog did bite but I would imagine the owner was not reading body language and probably caused it to escalate to that point, he definitely would have whispered he was unhappy before he was forced to shout if you know what I mean. The more homes he goes to just to come back, all the time with no walks etc etc the more anxious and unsettled he will become, and the more that will be his only defense against the world around him. Then he will be a dog that bites unfortunately and it will be more as*hole humans that caused it.

Are they SE based @AShetlandBitMeOnce?

I only ask as I can highly recommend a humane method based behaviourist speciaising in GSDs (they have rescue GSDs themselves) who could probably help them in the interim (and possibly assist in finding the dog a new home). They are very reasonably priced. If they are not SE based then they offer help remotely & I can personally vouch for them.

I appreciate they may don't sound open to a behaviourist - but given the dog has been returned and they (are hopefully) looking at rescue centres, I thought it was worth a mention.

Happy to PM you details if it might viably help.

OP could you offer to take the dog yourself and then rehome him from there? A bit sneaky, I know but in the dog's best interests.

I have thought of this but they would want me to take the dog immediately and I have two 25 year old cats at one home and my OH's property management don't allow pets (even though he owns a part of the freehold, I think this rule is rubbish but it is what it is). I also don't want to create drama within their family when they find out what I have done as it's my friends brother and I see friend/friends mums a lot.

Thank you Fankin I will contact you if they do start to consider a rescue.

@MM they wouldn't consider spending any money on him at this point, I've tried the trainer route!
