I'm not 100% sure, as I haven't lived in Germany for a long time now, and have forgotten a lot of horse terms, but I think the German word for a corn in the horses' foot is 'Steingalle'.
It is absolutely, definitely, NOT 'Mais'! That's sweetcorn or maize.

Absolutely correct, Faerie! I have a brilliant book called The International Horseman's Dictionary, which gives practically everything you could think of, in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, and that's what it says too.
