GET FREEZEMARKED then people will know what we are looking for or if we see a marked horse thats for sale at a sale we can revert back to ads then pass messages on , i can stress this enough, cant remember descriptions of stolen horses i read about over last few days but will remember mark,
 
Been saying this for years and was happy to see it works (not happy that I had to see it).
Can't say it enough - GET THEM FREEZEMARKED!!
 
Had my mare freezemarked well over 18 years ago and, subsequently, her son!

It's a visible deterrent and I believe that counts for a lot.

Owned six horses now and without exception every horse was freezemarked within six weeks of owning it. Who cares if you can't ride for three or four days, you have hopefully, the rest of the horses life to ride. Also, please, please, please get rugs painted with the freezemark and display "our horses are freezemarked" signs up around your yard and on gates of fields that are away from the main yard. It is up to us to protect our horses - they cannot do it for themselves. It drives me mad that people won't have it done.
 
Years back, when I had my first animals done, some miserable buggar nicked the Freezemark warning sign!!

i know this is a REALLY dump qeustion but how do you see the freezemark on a grey? not the imprint ones but the white numbers or is there an alternative?
 
Here is my Grey's freezemark, although its not as obvious to spot on greys its still fairly noticeable.

oh ok thank you! who should i ask about doing it? sorry i have no clue as only two of ours are done and they were done in Argentina and are branded.

Look on the Q&A for details of how freezemarking is done, but it is a painless (some slight discomfort felt) way of marking horses permanently to prevent theft. Brands are different to freezemarks, and I wasn't sure by your reply as to whether yours were just branded or freezemarked and branded. Myhorse was branded at 5 months to go into the warmbloed stampboek for his country, this was done with a hot iron and burnt and impression of his brand on his bum. Freezemarking is done cold and doesn't hurt.

sorry the two that have any marking were branded, the other 3 have nothing at all. Im going to look into freezemarking them all, but definitley the 3 with nothing.

Had two of ours done yesterday - long overdue, but so glad its now done. Horses never bothered about it. Bit fidgety but think it was more they were being made to stand still! Hope we never have to "use" the freezemark but feel better that we have the back up of Farmkey.
 
Bay on the left Freezemark can be read even with winter coat--very good
Grey pony not so successful, needs regular clipping and still hard to read but enough for someone to know there was a mark
 
Greys always need their Freezmarks clipped regularly in winter, but, when done properly, are very clear and visible, will always be on the shoulder, never on the wither.
