So, the pony is still very lame - finds it difficult moving round her stable but HAS improved very very slightly within 3 weeks and will now venture outside her stable (although it takes us 25 minutes to get her back!).
Eating, drinking, whickering at us, fine in herself...no swelling, heat, pulses, she's on soaked hay, one Happy Hoof feed a day (for Danilon), no grass and was exercised every day until she went lame (very suddenly - she's just recovered from a bad bout of lami and we'd just started working again after bringing her back very very slowly).
To cut a long story short, the vet has seen her and wanted her feet cutting back so the farrier came out and did that - took him over 2 hours to finish and she is on Danilon daily.

The vet came out again yesterday and said he can see no improvement, so he's going to x-ray her on Monday and until then he really can say no more. He says its nothing we have or haven't done. They have no idea what it is so I'm feeling pretty down about it.
Just wish we could find out what was happening with her and then know where to start!

On top of that, my beautiful German Shepherd has been having problems with drinking lately - drinking loads and loads and messing on the floor which is unlike her. The vets have tested her for cushings and even though it was a negative result, they say its still a potential. she's been on antib's and shown very little improvement. They've now tested her creatinine levels and done another 8 hour test on her bloods.

Has anybody any positive stories or anything to cheer me up???? (I've already opened the alcohol cupboard...!!)
A very disheartened K x

Chocolate!! You need chocolate!!!!!!

Big hugs for you and your girls!! Really hope they pick up soon! We lost a pony on our yard to lami about a month ago :(
Fingers crossed for your girlies!!!

Big hugs to you and your babies I can empathise with the GSD bit my beautiful girly has just started to show signs of hip Displaxia (sp?) and its heart breaking only so long the anti inflammatories will be able to help her :(

i havnt read any of your previous but there is alot of frost induced lami about, not alot of people take the frost on the grass into consideration and turn out onto it.
(((good luck vibes)))

Will keep everything crossed for them both. Keep us updated, am sure once the vets have found out what's causing both problems things will become much easier to deal with and they will soon be loads better x

Big big ((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) to you and lots and lots of ((((((((((((vibes)))))))))))) for your pony and dog.

I have everything crossed you have some answers soon. I know only to well from my experance with Lucy that not knowing what is wrong is the worst thing of all. You just want some answers so you know how to help you special friends.
I hope you get the answers you want and they are on the road to recovery soon. xxxxx

Hi guys apologies for the late reply I haven't been online much lately.

Kelly - she has mild pedal bone rotation, this happened in March but since then corrective shoeing has really helped and she was being ridden again - in fact the farrier said about a month ago, she looked so good on her feet he didn't recognise her when she walked onto the yard! She isn't on Pergolide, the vet (I think) is testing for Cushings but doesn't suspect it - its difficult to know exactly what is going on as I'm away at uni until 17th December. The vet is back on Monday to x-ray her again so until then fingers crossed....I have thought about it a lot and they've told us before that there was nothing they could do for her, but she bounced back so maybe it is a bit of 2nd mummy syndrome creeping in making me worry so much too! The vet has assured us it's nothing we have or haven't done (he worked quite closely with us all over summer because of how she was) its just happened.

Tara - some good news finally for my girl! There's no sign of kidney damage - her protein/creatinine levels are perfect, biochemistry has come back perfect, no other problems - so they have a dog who is drinking too much but not sure why! The vet said he could try more antib's but it would be for want of something to try so to leave her be and bring her back in a month to repeat the Cushings test or obv, if she gets worse to take her in again.
K x
