Getting a dog used to being away from home

Im worrying already!!

I have booked to go on holiday in June, i havent been away in about 4yrs so am looking forward to it.... BUT... Daisy has never stayed away from home, she will be going to grannies for a week, she goes there for odd days if i have to go on a course or something so is used to going and loves it (they spoil her rotten!) but she does after awhile start looking for us. She is nearly 3yrs old and has only stayed at the vets when poorly but as i work there she knows all the people etc and im there too. Any suggestions to make it easier for her im going to start letting her have sleep overs soon just at the weekends, ive got a dap infuser to plug in etc her fav toys and bed will go any other ideas?

Just take her with her bed,toys and food etc as you say she is used to going to them so leave her for a couple of weekends and let her get used to being there. I'm sure whe will soon settle in and get used to being spoilt! Mine goes to my parents and is spoilt rotten - given bones and all sorts and gets to sleep on a chair when they are watching telly. Always goes mental when I come home but couldn't care less when i'm not there - the ungrateful mutt!!

From an inside point of view, as I home board, I can honestly say I have never had problems with dogs fretting, they usually whinge for 10 mins of the owners dissapearing, then follow me or OH around like they are our dogs

As you are, pack of all her usual things/home comforts, and somthing I always do, is ask the owners to write me a daily routine, and I stick to that as closely as I can, so at least when the environment changes, the routine stays the same
she will be fine

Another thing, I also find that me picking them up from the owners as opposed to them dropping them off also seems more beneficail and less stressing to the dog, as they assosiate getting their lead on and getting in my doggi van, as a little adventure/poss walk, they stress a little more when the owners leaves them, as thye loo for them for a few minutes.

CALA, where in the world are you? How many dogs do you take in at one time (from one owner)?! Could use your services in the future if you are close enough! My usual house sitter is moving out of the area! PM if prefer. Ta

.im in Durham, I usually have no limits from the same family, just depends what rescues I have in, as they always take priority over boarders, also in the middle of looking for bigger property or extending lol
