Do the air veneted hats make a big difference? and is there anything else that helps?

I get extreemly hot when i ride, and i usually get a really really hot head because of this. It's disgusting, and i get a really sticky head when i take my hat off even after a light schooling sesson. (Me after a tough lesson or coming back after a round XC is a sight!!)

Does anyone know any cure's?!
If the air vented hats make a significant difference, then thats where my money ive saved up for badminton will be going!

(Sorry if this has been done before!) (Also on CR)

I also have this problem, and have tried a few different hats (including the vented JTE) and nothing really helps IMO, I always end up with ‘sweaty head’! I just have to change my hat routinely.

Hope someone else has some good ideas!

Horrible isn't it?? Lets hope some lovely people have some clever suggestions :)

TBH I havn't found vented hats make a huge difference. I've given in to having a sweaty head!!!!!!! The only other option would be one of those cycle helmet type hats (Troxel???) they may be better, but I havn't tried one because I think they are just too ugly, plus I wouldnt want to ride with big holes in my hat in case I fell on something sharp! (and knowing my luck I would!)

I get a hot head in any hat, but the vented hats stop the hot head turning into a migraine so yes they do work. I've got a Champion Ventair skull and it's the only hat I've worn that I don't get headaches in... head still gets hot and sweaty but I can deal with that as it's not half as bad as the migraines I was getting.

Hmm i dont ever get headaches or migranes just a horribly sweaty head!! Think im just gonna have to get a new hat every 6months or something, and put up with it!

Its such an attractive look!

I have exactly the same problem and have to buy a new hat every few months because OH says that my hair smells horrible when I've been riding. V embarassing!

yup me too - sweaty hat hair - was thinking of buying a vented hat but if they dont help much its a waste of money - Mine also can be still a bit damp next day - thats even worse putting slightly damp sweaty hat on ... eugh - may have to go for a troxel type hat - or shave the hair off lol!!!

I used to get really bad hat hair but I have a Dublin Onyx now and don't get sweaty at all. I think some vented hats are much more effective than others.

I wash the inside of my hat quite regularly. I have no idea if I'm damaging the hat? I make up a warm solution with non bio washing powder in a bowl and sponge the inside of the hat clean, and let it dry in a warm place in the house (not over a radiator).

It would stink otherwise!

I don't think doing this damages the hat, or would it? I wash it about every two weeks, as I ride in it most days.
