Hi all, my new horse is coming next week, I am very excited, also slightly nervous, he is moving about two hours away from the home he has been at for the last 4 years, is there anything that will help him settle in easier, make him less stressed or just general advice about helping a new horse adapt to a new home?

Also I have had people tell me different things, but when should I start to ride him? Some people have said as soon as possible to get him into a routine as he is only 6 - others have said leave it a week so he can settle in.
Thanks x

Congratulations! ! Exciting! ! My new one arrived Saturday afternoon 3 weeks ago. I rode him sun and mon morning to get him into a routine. I tried to find out as much of his old routine aS I could. He has settled in very well. Good luck x

I rode mine the day he arrived, just a short hack then cracked on as normal. There is no right or wrong with it IMO though my theory was that work was part of his routine.

Whatever you do, set both yourself and the horse up for success. So if the horse is calm and sensible there is no reason why shouldnt have a little potter on the first day, but if it is stressed out of its tiny mind then riding would be foolhardy until the horse has settled.
