Getting a pony to take antibiotics?

Any tips? My mare is on Norodine granules for the next 3 weeks at least. She is very difficult to persuade to take them need help

The only way to guarantee she gets them is to syringe them really, can try apple sauce and some water the smooth one is best.

With out old mare we used a large syringe and toffee yoghurt, she loved it, worked for her bute too!

If she won't eat mixed in her normal feed or hidden in a treat then agree syringe is the only other option

We went to the lengths of buying an apple corer, taking out the core, retaining the top and bottom and filling the rest of the cavity with the granules. Baggage still found it and spat it out lol. Tried a hollowed out banana as well.. no luck. The syringe was the only thing that worked and she only accepted that because she didn't get her dinner until she had taken it!

Dissolve in water then syringe. I find that the syringes that Sedalin comes in are really good.

Sugarbeet is fab for disguising nasty stuff, if not, yup, syringe.

I use natural yogurt for my ponies meds. She seems to like it.

Buy some spearmint or give a really garlicky dinner. Does the trick for me

What does she need them for? If she is really fussy it is extremely hard to be honest! My pony had to have some a few years ago after a nasty abscess infection. The vet almost killed him by giving him a penicillin injection - we had no idea he was allergic! We had to give him antibiotics orally afterwards for a period of time. Christ it was hard - THE pickiest eater ever (oh he's very, very greedy but everso suspicious!). We resorted to syrup sandwiches but even those he only had one or two before he decided they were most definitely poisonous!! We gave up after that!

Good luck but I honestly think you're best syringing them in to his mouth of getting ones you can inject in to his bottom!!!
