So I posted a while back asking how old your sharers were as I was thinking of offering a young lad a share prospect with my horse. Unfortunately his mum doesn't think she'd be able to cope with the extra money she'd have to shell out transporting him to and from my field :( It's a real shame as he would have been perfect for Loki and they get on really well.

Ho-hum on to the next one :)

So now I've been asking about and I have some interest from a lady who I've met a few times through a friend who rides. She's a very nice lady and is a competent rider, she had a pony when she was younger and has in the last year been really keen to get back into the horsey life. She rides fairly regularly at a local stables but my friend thinks that with her 3 young children she may find it difficult to find time. I'm fairly flexible though and I'm really just looking for someone to help me poo pick a bit and give my lad some exercise when I'm at work possibly with a very small monatary contribution for hay.

Anyway I'll get to the point :
Do you have a contract for your sharers? Could you give me an idea of what sort of things are in it please?
Sorry I seem to have rambled a bit again :o

When I shared I only had a verbal contract, Worth covering which days they can ride (and what they can do re: Hack/school and or jump), how much to pay (and when) and what duties are expected e.g. poo pick/muck out & tack clean.

I have just got a sharer and have adapted the BHS sample loan agreement (found it on a quick google search) to suit a share rather than a loan. I have also typed a document with various instructions for my horse (i.e. his feed and what boots he wears for what type of exercise etc.), contact numbers and yard rules. Maybe a bit anal for a 2 days a week share but I'd like to think this stops any confusion and unnecessary questions, especially if there is an emergency.

Yeah Tash, I figured that it might come across as a bit tw*tty but at least then everyone knows where they stand with a written contract :)

I'll cover which days they are expected to do, what duties they'd have - check over for injuries, groom & hoof pick, poo pick, check water feeder is still pumping it out, hay... I feel I'm forgetting something essential
For tack cleaning, I'd rather do it myself tbh
Exercise wise sharer would be free to school and hack but jumping should be done with someone there just in case (i'd hate for some random accident to happen when a sharer was alone, it's pretty quiet at our field and it'd be hit or miss whether there was someone passing who'd be able to help  - is that ok or really anal?)
I'd prefer they didn't treat by hand - this is anal I know but I'd just prefer them not to :o
For financial contribution I was thinking something small like £5-£10 a week for 3 days (if she wanted to do more days I'd be happy for the help on mine, she could ride and I could poo pick/ be her jump set-er up-er ;) and see to the other two)
Anything else I should think about and does that sound ok?

No contract, just a verbal agreement, been lucky though that our share/part loan lady is very reliable and loves our boy as much as we do, I know it's not easy to find one like that

I've done the same with my last and my present sharer. Like you say a bit anal most likely but I thought at least everything is written down and everyone knows what is expected. I do it as an email and ask if there is anything they don't like/understand as I want them to be happy with the share too and then put something along the lines of once all agreed if you reply to show you accept the terms blah blah! :o

Yes, had a written contract. It detailed who was ultimately responsible for the horse (me, it was my horse), who paid for what and who was responsible for what, how many/ which days per week the sharer could ride, what activities they could and couldn't do with him. And anything else you think you should put in writing. I think it was only a page long, not much on it really.

My friend and I part loan Boyo together, and have signed an adapted BHS loan agreement. We pay a minimal amount towards his upkeep, muck out / poo pick / do yard jobs / clean tack etc whenever we go up, and we are very lucky that his owner keeps him at home and doesn't work so is very flexible. With my friend and I both being self employed busy mums it is the perfect arrangement for us, and 3 months in, all seems to be going swimmingly so far :)
