I have a couple of white cotton quilted numnahs/saddlecloths , god knows what possessed me to buy them. I was sorting the back of my truck out and they were in there, dirty and wet, for a long time. I've chucked them in the washer but I know they are unlikely to come out properly clean.
What do others use ? Or shall I just chuck them away 🙄

I do mine with vanish + washing powder in the machine but pause the cycle to allow to soak for a couple of hours. Bleach is also good I would soak in a bucket again for a good while then run the normal washing machine cycle.

You want oxybleach / percarbonate of soda. Available on eBay etc (or eco type shops). It’s much kinder to the environment than peroxide bleach but very effective (don’t think eco = feeble!). You’ll need a big bucket and a cup of the stuff - mix some very hot water with the oxybleach stir until it foams, chuck in the numnahs and top up with hot water. Leave for 12 hours stirring occasionally (when you’re passing). Also great with yellow pillowcases etc…

I like Vanish powder too, I use the special one for whites and soak stuff in the bath with almost boiling hot water and a good dollop of the powder. Then I machine wash with more powder.

Yep, it’s good stuff. Meant to say, you’ll (hopefully obviousl) need to give a good rinse afterwards.

For ‘average yellowness’ (armpits on white T-shirts 🫣) I spray a 50:50 mix of water / vinegar (any old vinegar, but perhaps not red wine) on and leave for an hour before putting in machine (just delay the start if the wash) and that works really well.

…oh and oxybleach can be used on coloured stuff too - it‘s fab stuff.
