hi All

Bit of a pointless post but needed to rant.
In January i called a saddle fitter out for my daughters pony, he brought some saddles none of which fit. 2 more trips with various saddles and still none fit.

pony is a reg welsh section A who apparently has a banana back so needs a banana shaped saddle. i have phoned the saddle fitter every couple of weeks since then who keeps fobbing me off. Rang again today to be told he has one saddle that might fit but he wants to wait till he has got 2 or 3 Grrrrr it has taken him 5 months to get one.

When i las t rang i was told they would ring me back in 20 mins that was 1hr and 35 mins ago, so getting a bit mad now.

Sorry for ranting
Lou

Bit confused - have you ordered a saddle from him? Or are you just waiting to try whatever he has in stock second hand? If the former you are fight to be fuming - if the latter, try a different saddler?

That is annoying! worst thing not having saddle! :-(

This may not help but you should try a Tekna jumping saddle - I looked at them and my saddler has said they are great for banana shaped backed horses! Not too ££ and nice saddle! x

why not ring round other saddlers and see what second hand stock they hold, surely the saddler gave you an ide of withd seat size and tree shape would suit your horse so you can keep your eyes open?

Some saddlers are like this. If you have a horse that isn't a standard fit, and your saddler isn't arranging a made to measure for you, then you probably need to appoint several saddlers and the first to find a suitable 2nd hand saddle to fit you and your horse, is the one who gets your business! That's what I've done in the past.

Not sure I understand.. has he ordered something for you which hasn't turned up? Or are you just waiting and hoping he gets something suitable second hand in?

I would just ask him what makes/models he recommends, find one second hand yourself (Ebay, Preloved etc) and get him out to fit it.

BTW 1hr45min isn't a long time to wait for him to call back, a single saddle fitting might take that long! I can wait a couple of says for my saddle fitter to call back sometimes!

We are often busy out fitting saddles - often I can't phone back easily that day (though with my new bluetooth in my van that should improve!) and can frequently take 24 hours to get back to people but five months does sound like a saga. It does depend on what you are waiting for though as others have said.

What I will say is that, as a specialist fitting natives, I've never used a banana shaped tree on a Welsh A - I'd put money on it lifting at the back. They need fitting with much flatter trees than you'd think.

Will Clarify.

Yes it is a second hand saddle that i am after and i understand saddlers are busy.
But the saddle fitter assured me he had one to fit and if he didnt have one he could get get me one.

The others in the are dont seem very good and i have only heard bad reports.

i am not after anything fancy i just want one that fits.

I guess he can't just conjure a saddle out of the air..... So it seems terribly unfair to have a go at your saddler on here.

If the pony is difficult to fit, why not have one made to measure?

Welsh As are not easy to fit, especially if you have a proportionately larger rider, it really can be specialist stuff. And to that end you wouldn't need made to measure - M2M leaves you without the protection of distance trading laws, always buy stock from someone who carries suitable saddles if you can.

I always say you need as many of these three factors stacked in your favour as possible when saddle hunting, if you have two of them or more against you then you're in for a hard time:

Easy to fit horse and rider
Flexible budget
Plenty of time

So a hard to fit pony and a used budget only will always make things harder. Sorry :(
