Getting barky?

Since my ex moved out, my dachshund seems to have become more noisy. He's 14 months and woofs quite a bit now at noises, people in the street, people coming to pet him, and through the car window. He never used to be like this! My boss says it's because he's trying to protect me but that doesn't seem very likely. Might it be his age? Nothing has changed apart from the fact I'm living on my own now, but he still goes for the same walks and meets as many new and known people as before. Just now, he barks at them!

Agree with the boss - he is could be seeing himself in the position of pack leader now that your ex has gone.

On the other side of the coin, my male dog was practically mute until he hit 14 months and now if anyone comes on the yard he shouts the place down.

Did you watch Cesar Milan last night. A similar problem. You need to re establish yourself as the Pack Leader and be -as Cesar says-calm and assertive.
