Getting cats used to horses?!

One other thing - I've got my horses at home and this is wonderful as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately, my cat does not share this viewpoint and has been horrified by the heads that pop out of the stables. I brought the horses up to the back door, where he was watching intently, and he fluffed himself bravely for all of 10 seconds before his courage failed him and he hid behind the freezer...

He needs to get used to them but I'm not sure of the best way... Currently he is indoors but he will go out when the weather is better so I'd like to try and accustom him to the horses.

Any bright ideas?

No bright ideas but my cats love being nuzzled by the horses. A half grown kitten turned up here a few weeks ago and was scared of the horses for a while but now goes about her business taking no notice of them.
I'd just let him get used to the horses in his own time. :)
 
When we moved here about 16 years ago most of the cats had not had contact with horses, we just left them all to get on with it. They all got used to each other and the cats would spend quite a bit of time in the stablkes in winter. Down to only one cat at the moment and he pretty much ignores the horses, but is quite good friends with the sheep :D
 
cats are very clever left to their own devices. i have a couple who sleep on the top of the wide quiet ones in the stables! once horse friendly you just have to watch that they dont rub round the legs of the sharper ones! i also had one who used to sleep on the top of horses backs... he got bucked off one on box rest, and was very embarrassed as his fall was witnessed. he hasnt been back on one to my knowledge. most of mine will accept an inquisitive snuffle..
 
I agree just let them get used to them in there own time.....
