Suggestions please!

MY chunky monkey is currently being hacked (long) twice at weekends (interval training practice), does SJ practice and XC during the week (1-1 1/2 hour), schooled in lesson (30 -45 mins) and lunged/schooled another day. I'm still not sure this is enough to get him fit for an unaffiliated 3 day!

He is only fed Lo-cal, happy hoof and handful of oats (small!) should I be adding some comp mix? I am concerned he may get fat and keeping weight down on cobs is no easy feat!

well i have a conemarra but i think he ha cob in him and to keep him slim hehas no feed and is ridden mostly on a hack about 4-6 miles every day with 1-2 days off a week that seems to keep him pretty fit but could be a bit fitter were doing alot of ponyt club at the moment so that should get him fitter too :)

Tbh, getting a cob fit is hard work as they can be fit but still without the extra 'sparkle' you need. Also, unfortunately there isn't anything you can feed to give your horse more energy without risk of weight gain.

That's sound good to me.

All I'd add to it is a couple of gallops once a week or twice in 10 days in the lead up to the event, so 4, 3, 2 weeks away.... only if you can find somewhere suitably un-hard!

As to the feeding.... if he feels lively enough and is looking good on what you're feeding him at the mo, I'd stick with it.

He is lively on the XC (though struggles to go round the whole course of 22 jumps in canter!) but a bit ploddy on the DR - i suspect because it bores him senseless lol!

you could try giving him an EnerG shot before your event just to add that extra sparkle or use tiger oats for a week before, personally i'd up the work a bit, adding in more fast work and lots of hill work :)

I found that adding some Propell Plus to my boy's feed for a few days before really helped add some extra 'sparkle' for competition days, and happily adds no calories!
