Ok, so basically I am too heavy and unfit, and feel its unfair for my boy to be doing all the work carrying me.
Any tips for getting fit?
I don't do running. Prefer not to go to the gym.
I have a trampoline and lots of fields/roads!
I currently ride 2 horses a day and do all the work associated but am very unfit in any other way.
Any suggestions? How long a day should I be training? How long will it take me to get fit?
Thanks! (ps..wasn't sure to put this is soapbox or here...)

Hate to say it but you won't get fit if you don't exercise. Running, cycling and swimming are the best ways, you can't get fit without getting the heart pumping same applies for losing weight (well unless you just atarve yourself of course). Walking is also pretty good.
You might suprise yourself and like the gym, try a few lower impact classes, they are more motivating than trying to do it on your own.

I run to keep fit.

Started from scratch really - could only sustain about 5 mins in one go. There is a loop from my house around the park which is about 2.5 miles so I used to walk / jog around there.

As I got fitter I varied the route and worked towards doing more running and less walking (often people have problems with this because they run too fast when they are doing intervals).

Built that up over a couple of years and ran my first marathon in June 2004. Never thought I could possibly have done that! Also lost 4.5 stone along the way!!

Running suits me because it is flexible and burns off massive calories - provided I do plenty of running I don't need to worry about what I eat which makes me happier!! Currently training 3 or 4 times a week for about 5 miles each time but have entered the London marathon so that will need to increase if I am accepted!

Runners world magazine has a really good website with loads of advice for beginners.

Daughter, Bee is 15. She is a competitive swimmer training most days for 1/2 to 1 hour or so. She also rides 2 horses 3 days a week. She eats loads, (mostly healthy) but still feel knackered after a XC round!

You need to build up your cardio workout. A great fat burner is walking - I now eat what I like (within reason) and lost 1.5 stone in doing so. I also do cardiocombat and lots of dancing

You need to work a bit of a sweat up 2/3 times a week to have any hope of getting fit...fast pace walking, running, swimming are all good.
I keep fit by doing a 7-10 mile good pace walk once a week, run 3/4 miles twice a week and obviously ride 4/5 times a week...does the job!
When I lived in Leicester and had no horse I used to run then and would do up to 5 miles 4 times a week. It was the best thing I ever did as I lost 3 stone in weight and went from a size 16 to a 10/12 too!

I'll always remember a line from 'Ab Fab' (anyone remember that)
Eddie is moaning about the need to loose weight.. Saffy says to her "all you need to do is eat less, and do more excersise" to which Eddie replies "don't be silly, if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it"

Sorry, not very helpfull, but it always makes me laugh when i feel the need to get fit/loose weight

lol. The problem is I can't run far, I have bad feet (bad conformation!!)
I am too embaressed to go to the gym!
Hehe MDM.
Thanks guys, I could probably do the fast paced walking, is it better on roads or off? Or does it matter?
No chance I'd do a marathon, can barely run for 20secs I'm so unfit.
Right, so basically I just need to shake myself up a bit!
So would say 20mins a day hard work be enough or would it need to be more?
Is tramplolining any good? It's easy on my feet and fun so...
ugh...does it get easier when you are fitter?

i cannot work out/run/cycle outside after school as toodark - although i run and cycle after school in lighter nights. i work out for 60 mins 3 times a week in my room - burn a new cd each week with new tracks. I really enjoy ti and feel much better, at weekend i run or cycle as well as ride. Its simple really eat healthyier and little but often but exercise as much as often. it will be hard to start but you will get in to a routine!
