How the heck do you find a reliable/ brilliant saddler???
I've had 3 saddlers now either damage my horses backs or ruin the saddle fit.
Took my tb to a master saddler/fitter who a few people recommended, he took her lovely saddle that she'd had for 5 years with no problems squished the tree in & told me it now fitted.
Problems arose, took her to physio, low & behold saddle was too narrow for her. Since heard this saddler messed up a few horses. (horse now semi retired & ridden in barefoot western saddle)
Next story, different horse, different saddler. I bought her an expensive thorowgood synthetic. But wasn't sure of fit, saddler came out, altered the removable gullet in his machine, put it on & said it fitted. (at no time was I asked to get on & ride in it)
Few weeks later horse starts walking with her head near ground & bucked me off on a ride. She had a sore back.
Onto different horse again, another saddler, fitted my saddle company saddle,(this time I asked about riding in it and was told it wasn't necessary) he is now off work with terrible pain in his lumbar region. Chiro says caused by his saddle & when she saw it on him said it was a terrible fit, which I can now see. I would like a treed saddle for competing in, love my barefoot western & I've tried the barefoot English types but didn't like them at all.
All I want is a well fitting saddle. How come so many are getting it so wrong? I don't live in an area where there are loads of saddlers to choose from either so I either travel a fair distance or they travel.
Got given 2 names of other saddlers, can't find any reviews on them, asked on here, 1 good review & 1 bad for one of them. So fed up!!

You are not the only one, I had a fabulous one who I really respected but she gave up and moved to the Isle of Wight.
Now I'm stuggling to find any that can really fit, I know what I'm looking at in saddles and the fit, and know what I want but saddlers don't seem as trained or clued up wether Master saddlers or not, its a complete minefield and the poor horses which suffer.
I really wish I could train to fit saddles as would sort out my problems ;-)

I use Bridlepath International, wouldn't have anyone else. If you ring and leave your post code they will get back to you regarding the area they cover. I have used them now for 9 years. :D

Argggh just had an email back from Andy Wheals team to say he has broken his back & won't be working for a while.
Do hope he recovers though.
