Getting him used to sheepskin

I have bought a new Barnsby anti slip nummnah, which has sheepskin attached to it, around the pommel area. The only problem is my pony gets really wound up and agitated when i put it anywhere near him. I don't really want to send it back as I would like him get used it.
Any suggestions ! Thanks

If it is just because it is new and smells funny, let him sniff it and look at it.

Some horses object strongly to non slip pads because they find the sensation of them deeply unpleasant. If the saddle is slipping because it does not fit correctly, a non slip pad can agrivate the problem.

I think I will just have to hang it up in his stable or field and let him get used to it.
His sadle fits fine, i've had it checked. But he is a stockier breed dalesX so sometimes it has a slight tendancy to slip to the side, not alot though. I just thought a non- slip pad would help this.
