Have decided I would like to get some for next year but I dont know how to go about it . I dont know where oats are grown or what time of year they are harvested. I think that barley is grown rather than oats where I live ,has anyone given their horses some barley straw to eat for a low calorie filler.

Ring around your local straw suppiers and ask if they have it, or can get it. We were feeding the donks a mixure of barley straw and hay, but when we could get some oat straw we did, as worked out cheaper than the mix. Barley straw is fine for them to eat, it is a little lower in calories than oat straw so better for those really, really prone to weight gain, whilst providing a good ammount to eat.
