Getting horse used to electric fence

I have just fenced off half my horse's field with electric fencing so it can be sprayed with weed killer. This is the first time I have used electric fencing and I was wondering if there was anything I can do to get my horse used to it? Many Thanks!
 
Fenced mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago, shitland knew what it was and stayed away, the other 2 obviously stuck body parts on it because Forester was avoiding it the next morning but the coblet was sticking his bum on it, rubbing his side on it and mouthing it :confused: next day he was getting mouthfuls of water and mouthing it :o Once he got his kink sated he was fine though and now doesn't bother going near it. I think the best way for them to get used to it is for them to touch it for themselves.
 
Not sure how you mean "get it used to it" - they will usually stick their noses on the tape, get a shock and then respect and stay away from the tape.

BUT please be very careful if you are spraying anywhere near the tape - horses will often stick their noses under the tape to eat the grass on the other side. Could you not take them off this field altogether until after the recommended exclusion time on the spray directions. I wouldn't want my horse anywhere near weedkiller.

Thank you, unfortunately no other field to move to so we don't spray up to the fence line.
 
Without sounding mean the only way he will get used to it is by getting zapped! He'll then understand to stay away from in. That's how mine learnt anyway :p
