Tias mane is currently vertical and no matter how much brushing and patting down, it is still upwards rather than against her neck. how do i get it to lie flat?
Thanks

yup but then she looks incredibly stupid as her mane is thick and long on her scrawny TB neck lol! hmmm.. was wondering whether plaiting it down would work?

Put it in bunches

When I got Baron his was on the 'wrong' side. I just put it into loads on little bunches and now it lies on the other side. There is a little bit in the middle that occasionally flops back over so I just pop them back in for a week or so every so often. I do find pulling it helps, for what reason I dont know but it always lies flatter when ive pulled it.

Or you could try one of those Lycra hood things, perhaps put in in little plaits first incase a little bit gets onto the wrong side while the hood is one.

A hood or neck cover is by far the best and a lot easier. If you leave plaits in for a few days then it will cause rubbing. Also, I have noticed that when my horse was turned out 24/7 and he had his head down grazing all the time, then his mane would fall permanently forward, UP his neck!!!

Treat yourself to a neck cover or you could even make one yourself out of a lycra based material.

I like sticky up manes, gives the horse some character. You could by some hair gel it will help to get the mane to stay put.

I'd love to know the answer to this too and Louis' mane has started flopping into two diff directions...the top section flops to the right and the bottom to the left! It's makes plaiting a bit of a chore!

Try laying it in VERY small bunches, pulling it flat down as you do, with the plaiting band as close to the base of the horses neck as you can get it and then add some hair spray. This is a trick I have seen done with quarter horses, and they are in fact shown with their manes in this manner. I then went back and tried it on my scrawny TB and his unruly mane and to my shock it worked!!! I really do mean TINY bunches, you will end up with over 20 throughout the mane, but it doesn't tend to cause itching and running the way plaits will as you are literally bunching the hair togethr into position and not pulling it about. I used to laugh when I saw the QH wearing them but when I tried it and it worked I soon saw its validity as I never had a prob with this horse again. It is time consuming though as you have to ensure the bunches are small and pulled down flat, etc. or it won't work.

Have tried everything from letting it grow a bit to pulling it, thinning it right down, plaiting, bunches and still no luck

It did get marginally better over the winter when he had a neck cover on though... but he's living out 24/7 now and didnt think you could wear the hoodies whilst they were turned out?

Putting it in plaits or bunches usually works, but don't leave them in for too long or they might get rubbed. Neck covers work well too, or maybe a lycra hood.
