pass! The 2 horses came in today both PLASTERED in mud, bellies, neck, face, legs and even under their rugs. I got the worst off and have left the rest overnight in the hope it will fall off ;-)
A bucket of hot water, some no rinse shampoo & a rough flannel. Wring the flannel out so it doesn't drip in his eyes & scrub well! If there's no hot water to hand then I'm sometimes a mean mummy & if it's set like concrete I get the metal curry comb out
Cactus mitt/cloth. I know a really thin-skinned sensitive TB who won't let me anywhere near his face with a brush. The cactus mitt gently removes it all without fuss.
Thats what i use - may get away with a not too tough dandy on their cheeks but cactus cloth mit works well and bends enough to cover all the nooks and crannies on their faces.
Cover the horses cheeks/eye/chin with sunflower or veg oil on a sponge before turn out: it come off dead easy then with a cactus mit if it sticks at all.
Rub some pig oil on a hand towel all aroung the head, ears, eyes, and down the legs. No mud sticks. You don't have to do it every day. I just do it at weekends, and it lasts all week.
I rub my foals all over, and it stops rain scald & mud fever, keeps them clean, and the rain beads off them. They absolutly love it too!!
