My horse was in a lot in winter, had 1-3 days per week out and rest of the time he was in and ridden 5-6 times a week in relatively hard work.
Now he is out every day in a smallish field with 3 other horses. We slowly built up to this and he is out from about 8am to 5.30pm.
There is not a lot of rich or long grass in the field, so Im not too worried about him getting fat, colic or lami.... although correct me if Im wrong.
He is fed a small brekkie in the morning, half an hour before he goes out and in the evening he has joint supplement, vits & mins, large scoop alfa a oil and medium scoop of spillers conditioning mix.
He looks fantastic and, until he was going out every day, he seemed as fit as a flea! However, now he seems to have lost his sparkle a bit. He's a bit lazy anyway, but he seems tired, dragging his feet etc, and I want him to feel raring to go, especially at weekends when I have competitions. I jumped him last night and he was good, but he's a very clean jumper and he just didn't feel like he was putting any effort in, clipping the jumps a bit and being a bit clumsy.
Is this just normal from being out all day in the sun and eating grass, playing with his friends and generally tiring himself out, or is there something I can do to put his 'sparkle' back?

My horse went through this last year. He was alfa a oil, outshine and baileys topline cubes for breakfast and dinner but lost his sparkle due to being out on good grass 24/7.

He is quite sharp and spooky in nature but I introduced a small amount (cupful a day) of Baileys Competition Mix and that bought the sparkle straight back - I could then adjust it for how much I wanted.

My horse went through a phase like this last year. He was going kinda OK but just wasn't his usual enthusiastic self. Had the physio out for a routine check up and it turned out he was a bit sore. Had a treatment and went right back to normal.

i am having exactly the same trouble with my horse ! hes slightly over weight (but it is coming down) and hes only out 8am - 12.30 as we have quite rich grass and i dont want him getting bloated as i do ridden hunter with him, i spoke to a lovely lady called caroline at baileys and she went through his full diet with me. he was alfa oil and competition mix and supplements. she said he was getting to many carbs and with him being a "good doer" they where making him lethargic as do to many carbs in humans ! hes now on alfa a, lo cal and outshine and straight outs and gets 3 small meals a day instead of 2 big ones and i can really see the difference ! im still getting to know his oat level but his general feel is much better , my boy is VERY VERY lazy and now once hes warmed up he feels alot lighter and more athletic on his feet ! if you want carolines number pm me and ill give it to you ! she is fantastic !

Hmm might be something I should look into.... when i bought him he was branded a 'bucker' - I noticed his saddle didnt fit, had it changed and he hasnt bucked since!! He also has a sheepskin which seems to make him more comfortable. Also had saddler, vet and physio check him when I bought him (Jan) and so maybe its time to have him checked again. Only problem is Im skint at the moment....

Yes please pm me details!
Sounds like he could be going through the same thing - I give him high energy feed to pep him up and its actually having the opposite effect?!! Oops. It really worked when he was stabled but now he's just a dopey old mule lol
