My puppy ia a bit on the the lean side. He is regularly wormed, and the vets says he is fine but is quite lean (but that is better than too fat). He is very shiny and full of beans but is a bit too ribby. He is a jack russellx 6 months and weighs 5kg. Any suggestions to try and bulk him out a bit, or is it a case of waiting till hes stopped growing and see if he fills out then. He wont eat anymore of his kibble.

Thanks

I wouldn't panic too much, lots of dogs are skinny and rangey at this age.

Lots of fish and oils mixed in with his food, tuna, sardines, veg oil, salmon oil should put on weight. I'd rather have a skinny than a porker though, I am sure you are worrying about nothing :)

Thanks. I am sure he is fine, he is certainly very happy! He loves tuna so thats a start. I have been giving him the tuna in spring water as thats what i have, should i get the one in oil? Also if i get sardines what type do i buy so they are not bony, mine usually come in a tomato sauce is that dog friemd;y?? Thanks for replying

Tuna in sunflower oil is fab for putting on condition. I feed it to my little one when we're away shooting for the weekend, as she gets too excited to eat properly. I also cook her a little omelette, or scrambled egg, with her biscuits in, a couple of times a week. The other thing she goes crazy for (her nose wriggles like something possessed :D) is liver!! A packet only costs about 80 pence or less, and we cook it up at home. If we mix it in with her biscuits, with a little warm water, then it makes her polish of the biscuits too :) (something she doesn't always do with other meat mixed in) Oh, and we tried kidneys this weekend, with the same effect, but my word it smells vile!

Mine had liver lollies last week, it was a nice sunny day and I couldn't be bothered defrosting the packets :p

You can get all sorts of fab stuff like that from the bargain bin in Asda and Tesco. I was in the latter today and the checkout girl laughed when I told her the first seven items were for the dogs (all meat) and the rice crispies, orange juice and own brand pasta and sauce were for me :p
