Hi All,

Was hoping for some advice on how to get ride of moss. I have a couple of small paddocks lined with trees and the moss is taking over under the trees.

How would I get rid of the moss if I had access to a tractor/farmer help? Equally, the paddocks are quite small, would it be possible to tackle it by hand?

Thank you

Ferrous sulphate is the moss killer you need, plus lime because generally it indicates acid soil. Whether you can do it by hand depends on the area involved. I would treat the worst areas, get the soil tested (you can get cheap kits from garden centres) and if it is really acid, get a contractor to lime it. You only need keep horses off until it has been well rained on.
Then, when you have killed the moss, harrow to get rid. It can also indicate over grazing, long grass keeps moss at bay, so I would use it as somewhere to spread muck to improve fertility. Shade doesn't help of course.
