Getting someone out to check his back?

Hi All,

Posted a few days ago about my horse grinding his teeth. Am currently trying to eliminate all issues before discussing the possibility of scoping for gastric ulcers with the vet. Had the dentist out today - no problems. Saddle fitter also been out. A couple of minor alterations needed so saddle will be going in for adjustment. I am aware that ideally his back should be checked first, and the saddler has given me a couple of numbers of reputable specialists. However, from what I have read on here, and from checking the sites of the recommended specialists, I have heard that you need to get the vets permission. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but exactly how do I go about this? I assume I need to get the vet to come out?

No there is no need to get the vets permission to call pysio out unless you want to claim on insurance. otherwise just give them a ring and then you can book appoinment and away you go

some do insist you ask the vet first. but its only a phone call. My friend just tells them she asked. I don't ask him anymore once was enough

An equine osteopath would also be good instead of a physio.

the 3 work differently 1st step maybe to consult your vet to see which way you should go.

I've had the chiropractor out to my horse a couple of times recently, we were going to get my sisters mare checked after she had been off having a foal, so got my boy checked as well.
She is a qualified vet as well and found a few bits on his back, he's always been cold backed and is now nearly 21, but already he is more comfortable being girthed up.

Unfortunately not true. Vet has to give persmission for any 'alternative' person to treat your horse. A quick phone call is usually sufficient although I have never yet had a back person ask if my vet had given permission.
