My horse (9 yr old, ISH) is very green with his jumping, having been kept mostly as a pet for the first 7 years of his life.

I have a couple of issues - at the moment, I have a pure dressage saddle and am getting a new one (as well as the dressage one) next week, so do I go for a GP saddle or a jumping one?

Other issue - how do I get started with the jumping? I want to do things absolutely right. At the moment, he takes off from anywhere - stands off or gets in deep. However, he does have a good jump, but tends to go on his head a bit.

Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks

I think the only advice would be to book yourself some good lessons with a showjump trainer, who can start you and your horse off with poles and grids etc.

get him lunging/ free schooling over fences - they work out what to do for themselves.

then introduce raised trotting poles and small x's

i am going through this process with my bab hoss well he's 7 too but has beenbroken in and that was bout it. he'd never been on a hack etc etc!

but yeh some help from someone experienced on the ground is a MUST
