So i need hairdressing help for the Destroyer but firstly how do i tell the bugger off when i'm laughing so much i'm nearly falling over?
this morning one of the girls offered to take hovis whilst i led out omar. Normally I take both but never one to turn down help i let her lead the beast. Once in the field she went to let him off the headcollar, he seized her glove, took it off her hand and ran off with it like a dog. Cue her chasing him round the field, him with a single glove hanging out of his mouth and me trying to shout at him but laughing so hard that i was crying. in the end when i managed to stop laughing enough a did manage a very stern "DROP IT" which in fairness he did....... straight into the water trough. Strangely i think she might not offer to help again. How on earth do i tell him off when he's so damn funny with it?!!

But my real question! How do i get his mane to lie correctly? I have tried everything. Pulling it, thinning it, washing it and plaiting to the correct side - you name it. But it always ends up with a centre parting and hair on both sides. He looks like the "special" child in the play ground whose mother cuts thier hair using a bowl as a stencil. HELP!!

How funny

I use quic braid. It works really well for platting etc and has instructions on the side tro train your mane to sit the correct side. Let me know if you want me to find an add for it about £10 a bottle.

Love the story about the glove, he sounds like great fun!!

Have you thought about a lycra hood?

My girls mane always looks a mess, she has thousands of whorls up her neck which flicks the mane in all directions!!

Good luck x

PMSL!

My horse's mane always lies on both sides too. I have tried everything but now given up! Whenever I plait him up etc, I always do it on the correct side, so for day to day, I have just accepted that his bog brush mane has a mind of its own!

Farra has the same hair style - and her mane is really thick as she was hogged so the growth is very hedgerow.

I am about to tackle it by thinning slightly and then going to put in bunches on the correct side and hope it grows that way.

Cairo's mane was far more tidy but his liked to go to the left and I gave up arguing with it.

Chancer too goes for the double mane look, but I have tamed it by having it in plaits, but leave them off and within a few weeks it is back to all over the place.

Luckily once washed and overnight with a hood on, puts it back as it should be with him.

I did laugh at the glove - my two would have probably done the same thing, but knowing them would have put it in the muddiest place and then trampled it.

My advice? Ignore it - who cares!

I have a selection of ponies and horses, and the ponios have mostly manes that lie to the right, one has a mane like yours with a parting along the top, my daughter's horse's mane lies completely to the left, and my horse's swaps over half way, but then he is a contrary b$$$$$d anyway. I did try to change it for a while, but gave up when it did what it wanted regardless of my best efforts.

There is no answer to how to tell him off while you are laughing,

it never works, they know they have amused you and what's more they have amused themselves

The best our old Appy did was fill her mouth with water, cross the box, still with the mouth full and drop it down the back of my sisters jeans as she was crouched over doing some job or other

Sister couldn't tell her off for shreiking, I couldn't for laughing and the mare was so excessively pleased with herself

Re the mane, I have seen them plaited and weighted, but think that is a bit OTT to be fair. Mind you I am lucky the current girls mane all lies neatly to the right

at least you have a parting! I have the top of a centurians helmet most of the time, sticking up vertically.
My advice ignore it. Unless pony club are telling you off for it in which case I used to pull it quite short and thin (long enough to plait just) then get heavy duty brush out hair spray and create magic. Also another tip if you have a crazy main like Tupps is if you yet whispy bits when you plait where the mane like to lie the otherside from the way you are plaiting get in a really high stool (or sit on your horse) and instead of plaiting towards you and down, plait vertically up. then roll the plait down the side ts ment to be. secure with more hair spray/gel. Stops so may fly away bits
