I am musing on buying one of these saddles (to be professionally fitted by my saddler!) as I have seen they go for a reasonable price on ebay. Just wondered what people's opinions of them are? What type of horse do they tend to fit, and are they comfy for the rider? I currently have a wintec (new shape 500) which i find quite uncomfortable!

Shape wise, my little mare is currently in a wide gullet but she does have a bit of wither - she is quite finely built really but looking rather like a barrel on spindly legs at the moment! She is short backed (these saddles come in 16.5 I think?) and also a bit croup high!

Had one for Topaz who to be fair is a difficult fit, and have had to admit defeat sell and buy something else that is a proper fit on her.
It did seem to fit well, as it was nice a level, no bridging and seemed nice round her shoulder. However it was fractionally too wide in the tree points so it caused pressure points, and also didn't have enough panel/ gusset to the rear so we ended up with too much movement at the back emphasising the problems at the front. To look at it appeared to fit but once a closer look was made the faults were obvious, as the tree shape just wasn't quite right for her.

All of this is by the by, if the tree shape is right for your horse then it's a love saddle. I found it lovely to ride in and an excellent price.

I had one for years and loved it, I had the equisuede version, it wore so well and was easy to look after, looked like new after 4 years of use! I would say that they are very neat little saddles in size, my 17.5 was more like a 17, I had mine on a short ish backed 15.1 TB (I am 5ft 4), it lasted a while and got us through 4 years of growing before his back changed shape and I had to move on, not great for high withers and a curvy back, also had it fitted a xxw cob too while mine was on box rest.

Ok my bad I've just realised mine was the Monarch not the Genesis :o:o:o

However to back up my uselessness, my friend has the gp version of the Genesis (promise it is actually that range this time!) and its very nice. She has hers on a barrel of a pony without much whither, but is also a bit curvy through his back confo too, though I still think its more if the tree shape fits more than anything.

I have one, used for youngsters and would be my preferred synthetic and is also very comfortable!
