Hi, if you have been to the gg centre in raskelf york I would appreciate your opinion. The owners have recently started putting sheep on and near the gallops to keep the grass down. On several occasions I have said to my mum how dangerous it is as the sheep often lay on the gallops, or are just on the side and run away when you pass and as we all know horses dont need much encouragement to be stupid. I have never really had much of a probem before apart from the odd shy. But this weekend instead of running away from me a sheep decided to dive through the fence and straight infront of me while i was galloping, my horse attempted to jump the sheep but twisted sideways and I had a nasty fall.

The owner said they had never had any complaints before about the sheep.

I am just interested to know if anyone has had any problems.

Thanks,

Katie

Not had any issues with them although when I took my sister's horse he did try and go for one of the sheep mid-gallop!

Thanks.

One of the sheep has once raced a my horse, which at the time I thought it was quite funny. But when I thought about it, if it were a child on a pony it might of taken of n the child may not of been able to stop the pony.

I just think that you pay for a safe environment to gallop n having sheep running all over is not my idea of safe! Its a shame as I have been going for about 5 years and they didnt have them on for the first couple of years.

as far as i know, the sheep have always been around the gallops.

i personally have never had a problem with the sheep- they soon shift if they think they're going to be squashed!

its good bombproofing for my spooky horse!!

They werent on the gallops for the first couple of years of it been open but have been for the last couple! They have always ran away from me before but this one obviously had a suicide mission!

I have now ripped the ligaments in my arm and will not be able to ride for a few weeks which is disappointing. And my horse which was fine with sheep before is now petrified.

I just want to warn people to be a little cautious around them as the are animals and clearly do things that you dont expect! Believe me i expected it to run away as usual, the last thing I thought it would do is dive through the fence and run right infront of us.

Does anyone know of any other gallops available for hire around york?

Ta Katie
