What a week....
Tuesday morning - went to get on my horse (just back in work for upcoming point to point season) and ancient old heavy wooden mounting block toppled over backwards, taking me with it and I landed full on. Thought I had broken my pelvis - but can walk, just...painful in the extreme.
Today - went to check on two scruffy ponies who were purchased about 2 months ago in a dismil condition - both have come on heaps, and one has been gelded - the little mare a poppet. Turned out with young cattle - as the mare was beginning to wind up my gelding TB racehorses......Thought the walk would help to ease my pains.....Wrong!
Found them both - one grazing, one stood under a tree - then i saw her leg. Closed my eyes in the hope that I had not seen what I saw.....skin completely peeled off fetlock - no chance of stiching.....God knows how she did it.
Got a trailer, and bought her home. Knew that vets fees would amount to £1000's.....knew that if we tried to treat ourselves, the leg would become horribly affected - Pony also showing signs of sweet itch.....She cost £50.....Horrible decision, but we made it - thank-goodness for the local hunt. Very sad, very sad, as lovely sweet pony.
Also got a TB who is fairly new to us.....since having him he has had bouts of urticaria - lumps that come and go....but he has recently had a wind operation - which he has recovered form really well - but lumps really bad now. Had one visit from the Vet - she said not to worry too much - gave him a shot of steroids - lumps went - but came back a week later as bad. Under no stress at all now. A neighbour says his blood is wrong - am thinking that something like Pink Powders might help? What do others think / suggest?
Oh and my back is still agony...Can't even get in the car to drive at the moment - goodness knows when i will ride again......!
