One of the grooms is leaving the yard. She's been there one way or another since her early teens (about 19 now) and extremely competent and a very talented rider. She's leaving to pursue further education, hoping for a career in racing, and we'd like to have a whip-round to get her something nice.

So far we have a vague idea that it should be either a memento (eg horsey jewellery) or something good quality and practical that she'll be able to use in this new phase of her life (which will also be her first time living away from home), but very few concrete ideas hence the post. Not sure on budget yet but I would say £100-200. Any ideas much appreciated!

Id second some really nice yard boots. They'll last for ages and hard to justify treating yourself to
Trouble is you can't just buy them for her. Boots/shoes are very personal to fit. I struggle to get shoes/boots that are comfortable, have to try on lots so wuldn't want to just be given some. Vouchers much better in my opinion.

I would get a lovely personalised big card where everyone can write a lovely message in, and regarding a gift, I'd do some gift vouchers for a local horsey shop - that way she can buy whatever she needs for her new career and there won't be the awkwardness of clothing not fitting/not being liked etc xx

I'd be tempted to go for the boots but buy them from the local tackshop and ensure there is a gift receipt there. Then if they don't fit or she doesn't like them she essentially has a voucher.

The things I kept and remember are letters/cards people wrote for me with lovely messages in. I know I did get gifts but the only ones I remember are a pair of knee length stripy socks that I absolutely loved! I'm sure a gift card to Old Mill or similar would be hugely appreciated. I dont know what I'd have done with jewellery!

I worked on a yard in my late teens and when I left, they kindly gave me a framed picture/collage of some photos of me riding over the years with my favourite horses there. I still have it and look at it all the time!

Have a look at a photo book being made of all the horses and ponies from the yard, you can also add extra blank pages for people to write messages for her
