Is there anything specific I would need to do when gifting a horse to someone? Would you put anything in writing or just give them the passport?

My daughter is gifting her horse, who has a few issues that the new owner is fully aware of, but would it be wise to put things in writing so that there can be no comeback? We would also want the new owner to feel that she would not have to worry about us trying to get said horse back at a later date.

We've never done this before so any advice would be appreciated.

Sell the horse for a nominal amount such as £1 with a written receipt detailing the issues it has and that the purchaser is aware of them and get them to sign it and keep a copy just incase.

Definitely draw up a sale agreement and get new owner to pay something even if it's only £1 as you then have a contract with 'consideration'. Also get the signatures witnessed by someone independent. Doesn't need to be fancy just state you are selling for that sum description of horse and statement of it's issues and that new owner accepts and is fully aware of these then covers you both
