Gill Spinney Equine Dentist.....has anyone used her???

Hi everyone.

I got my new horse a week ago today. Apparently he had had his teeth checked about 6-8 months ago so i was going to get them looked at pretty soon. But i think they need doing now, when riding he is fussing with his bit a little bit and just the general impression that i am getting is that they need a look over......so, i used to use my vet for my previous horse, but i have seen Gill Spinneys name branded about a bit and wondered if anyone has used her, if she is good and roughly how much she charges.
I am looking to have someone gentle and sympathetic as my new horse is an absolute angel but not too keen on having his mouth looked at and is a tiny bit head shy.....anyone who watched me worm him lastnight would have been in fits....i think i had more worming paste than he did as he protested a little!!!!!

Any help appreciated!
 
i use her and reccomend her,never rushes, will explaine any problems and also what shes doing. shes very good with the horses aswell.
 
I have used her for about 3 years - she is lovely, she does about 16 horses on my livery yard and all are happy with her. She's calm, sympathetic and thorough. Totally reliable and is actually the secretary of BAEDT
 
Do you know if she can sedate? or would i need to get the vet aswell??
I dont know 100% if my boy will need sedating but i am 95% sure just because he doesnt seem to like having his mouth fiddled with!
 
she doesnt sedate, but ive seen her with difficult horses and they have all been fine.

she has a very good manner with them, and whilst doing any rasping etc gives the horse pleanty of praise and breaks from the gag etc.

Its all very unknown at them because i have only had him 6 days i dont know whether to have the vet do it first time....my vet always did my old horse, who came to me with a mouth that hadnt been touched in donkeys years...and he did a fantastic job....and could sedate him.
But i would rather have him done by someone properly trained. Hmmmm........!!
 
Gill Spinney is very good. Personally though I always use the vet, as some of mine do need sedation. I've never had any problems with the vets doing the teeth either - in fact I needed a vet to perform minor surgery on one occassion which of course the EDT couldn't have done. Also if you are in the area Gill normally works in you have several Equine Specialist vets to choose from !
 
I am in devon and usually use The Mount Vetinary Hospital in Wellington.
The vet there was always very good with my horses teeth.
 
Another thumbs up for Gill Spinney :)

As already said, she is calm, quiet, very professional and does an excellent job. I am right on the very edge of her usual working boundary but was very pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the bill was.
