Girth for horse with sensitive back

Hi,due to a theft at my yard I now have to get all new tack... anyway, got the saddler out today to fit me a new Thorowgood which is what I had before and really has worked for my girl who has had issues over her back muscle related. I remember a long time ago being told by someone that for horses with issues over the back not to use girths with elastic endings. But my saddler today recommended getting one with elastics on either side. Is there a connection with not using elastics on horses with bad backs and why? Or is this just not true? Any ideas or experiences welcome. I have for years just used the non-elastics with no problem so reluctant to change...
 
My saddler says to use a girth with either no elastic or elastic on both sides, not on one side.

If your mare has been happy with no elastic, I would just replace the girth you did have and continue as usual.

My personal understanding is that the main issue with the elasticated ends is that people tend to over tighten the girth. I know I seem to spend most of my time at the riding school on a Saturday letting the girths out so the poor sods can breath and so many people these days don't tend to check they can get a hand comfortably inside anymore.
Not suggesting that this is you just that this is to my mind why people started to recommend not using them.
Did your saddler say why she thought it would be a good idea to use a girth of this type? Sure it would be fine if used correctly :-)
 
Hi, I didn't ask what type to use at this moment... just used a standard basic cottage craft before for years (have small budget) - I meant to say in original post that he said elastic on both sides, sorry that may not have been clear.
