I'd like to find a new dressage girth to use in warmer weather. Our regular girth is a Mattes asymmetrical girth, and it does the job fine. However, this horse SWEATS and the sheepskin is soaked, and usually dries off well enough before my next ride, but it depends.

I am considering getting a spare/hot weather girth. Something easy to clean/dry, but also good for the sensitive horse. I have seen people say good things about the Wintec Chafeless girth, but I've never seen one in person. Any suggestions are welcome!

I used to use a string girth on a welsh who had sweet itch. In summer his midline would get scabby and itchy and sweat would make it sore. I found the string girth quick to dry, both on him and also after rinsing post-ride.

I have the Wintec one but i put a neoprene sleeve on it. My horse came with healed but visible bald patched around her girth area where there was obviously sores at some point so she was/ is sensitive. The neoprene sleeve seems to really help and its so easy to rinse it in a bucket of water and let dry or stick it through a 20 minute wash cycle. Im extra careful about clean tack and equipment and this combination works well for her and the scabs look better and better every day.

I did try a Ventech a year or so ago, the sizing came up a bit small, and I returned it, but never bought another. Could try again. I've also considered a string girth, just haven't quite found one I like that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! :p

I had a Neoprene sleeve on a girth for this horse when I first bought him and his skin broke out badly. Not sure if it was the Neoprene or coincidence since I switched to the sheepskin and didn't try again.
