please help!

i had a 46 inch cotton girth for my horse , which was a bit on the long side - it was up to the top holes on one side and 2nd from top on the other. As he is losing weight I ordered a new one for him, a 44 inch aerborn atherstone with elastic at both ends. Now Im not sure if its because its elasticated but it too went up to the top holes on each side:confused: I was careful I wasnt doing it up too tight but i could easily still get my hand under it, to the point I really wanted it a hole tighter! So, do you have to go down a size with elasticated girths? should I get a 42, or even a 40 perhaps:confused:

One inch is normally about one hole. So work out how many holes you would like to go down and then take off that number of inches. Elastic will obviously have more give than non elastic, so also consider that.

Also you said he was losing weight - he obviously has! Won't the tack shop let you buy 2 sizes of girth to try & refund the one that doesn't fit?

personally id stop using them, far to easy to over tighten even when you think you havnt,

to be pendantic.. there was a study on them a while back about how they effect saddle/horse balance especially the ones that are only elastic one sided.. will see if i can find it!

yeh he is losing weight, but not that quickly ;) He only had the cotton one on yesterday and the new one on today ;)

Jhoward, my saddler warned me off the ones with elastic at one side, she told me how bad they are for your saddle and moreover your horse! The one Ive bought has elastic at both sides. Im really aware of not overtightening it but honestly, i could still really easily get a hand under it, hmmmm maybe it would be easier just to get one with no elastic.
