Hi all

Need to buy my daughters 11'2 sec a a new girth as he's had a new saddle and the old one isn't long enough

He's had a new saddle as he rides his saddles forward due to a forward girth groove. We have sorted this problem with his new saddle and additional fixing strap.

Any reccomendations for a low cost girth that would suit him? Am I best to avoid elastic ended ones?

Thanks x

Wintec elastic ones are fine I would have thought and Thorowgood girths but see if you can get the ones with elastic both ends. I have had saddle slips in the past which have sorted themselves out to be honest but never had a problem with elasticated girths.
I did try some humane girths in the past though as well and they were ok.
I suppose it depends on what type of girths you prefer, leather, synthetic (wipe clean), string or the material girths?
I prefer synthetic myself as easier to keep clean especially when the mud and wet is about.
Not sure if you can get the Thorowgood full elasticated ones though as I got mine secondhand from ebay like most of my girths.

I have a thorowgood girth for the pony - fab little girth and very reasonable price I think. Her original one only had elastic at one end but when I brought a spare one it had elastic at both ends :)

Aerborn do a girth with elastic both ends. I use them on my horse who is sensitive and they have never rubbed. About £20. Or if you want to splash out, Professional Choice girths are great but aren't cheap.

elastic on one side is fine but i wouldnt touch ones with elastic on both, much too easy to over-tighten imo.

One sided elastic is considered a mega no no as it puts uneven pressure on the horse. As with any girth it's better if you just don't pull it up with all your might as some do - wince making!
