I tried a Le Mieux Gel Tek girth, but all the pressure sat at the back and made her sore.

Photo attached of her ‘shape’ if anyone can help. I like Mattes but don’t have £200/300 to spend on a girth sadly and can’t find any second hand.

I've found a WOW h-girth brilliant on my forward girth groove, sprung rib cage, no withers cob. You might need longer straps for a GP saddle otherwise they pop up 2nd hand on the various FB forums

A curved or crescent girth, with the curve facing rearward, can take the pressure off horses where the pressure is at the back. If you fold them in half, there is more space at the back.

Much as they look as if they would sit wrongly, when you hold them up, once on a horse that is wider behind the girth significantly, they actually hang straight as opposed to you seeing the curve.

It has to be one where the buckles sit in different directions, so a true curve. Some cheat and they don't work!

She looks flat where the girth seats so personally would go for a regular shaped (symmetrical) girth like the Thorowgood. I use a curved girth on mine with the curve pointing to the front but she is round where the girth seats.
If you like sheepsking, you can then add a sheepskin sleeve onto your girth. Usually you can get some second hand ones very reasonably priced.

For cheapness a string girth with the back buckled one lower than the front one could work well. Otherwise, I second the H girth, also on different holes, but they are expensive.

Brilliant, thank you. I’ve bought a second hand GFS one today which is very similar shaped to that.

Harry Danns waffle.girths are better imo than any other similar versions. Any leather Atherston type just don't go for the cheap ones where they have a narrow band down the middle, the thicker leather should.be shaped, not just the padding. Any elastic (I mostly prefer elastic for the way I fit saddles) should be strong.

A decent split to the buckles helps.with using balance strap etc. Stubben cors girths are great too except.of your girth straps hang right next to each other as the buckle attachments end up sitting on top of each other and causing a pressure point.
