Girth rubbing

Had a sheep skin sleeve on the girth but it started to rub in the arm pit area sleeve was very clean but I think a bit of grease has caused it. Using surgical spirit to harden skin in that area both sides and have stopped using sleeve. Any remedies for galls?

Maybe switch to a Stubben type string girth? My boy's girth was rubbing and making him very red so I bought a pretend Stubben, never had a problem since.
