Girth Sizes?

Hi ,

Am new to this!
Have just orderd a new close contact single flap jump saddle and now need to get a girth for it!
How do I no what size i need as it'll be a smaller size. He's a 48inch with my current saddle. Have heard that you half you're horses normal size.. Is this true?
