Can you guys help me by advising the best girth sleeve. It needs to be sheepskin.

I have used a Bartl one but it keeps getting matted after washing and the skin has torn on it so there is a hole in it now. I haven't used it that much either.

So I am looking to buy a new one but was wondering if there are any better ones out there.

Thanks in advance for your help

I use the NuuMeds too, are excellent and wash very well. If you use the NuuMed NuuWash, designed for horsey wear and soapbased you will probably find your girth sleeves wont get matted. I also use them with my dressage girth, they come in different lengths depending on what you want.

We have a Mattes/Amerigo one for the dressage girth, it is only sheepskin on the inside and it velcros on with strips (Carl Hester uses these, they look very smart, prefer them to the "full" sleeves - but it depends how your horse gets rubs, some rub because the elbow comes back over the girth when they move, in which case this sleeve wouldn't be much use)) - washed it loads and it still looks great.

Although not sheepskin, pure wool is also very good.

I use a pure woool felt girth guard, which, rather un handily comes from NZ. I had them sent over, which actually only took about a week.

I use them on all my horses, in particular on one who reacts to manmade fibres, and gets all sorts of rubs and sores. Since using these, he has been fine.

I bought my Nuumed sleeve from e bay £19.99 they have a sale on. There are different sizes and it came almost the next day. Its brilliant, only woollen one side. Have a look on E Bay first.
