Girth sores.

Always wipe girth and saddle area with clean sponge and clean water, I use a small amount if washdown product. Leather girth as well.

I agree. :)

I have found that sheepskin covers with the leather still attached to the wool are better than the ones where wool has been cut off and then sewn onto a material backing. Also use a leather girth that is shaped around the elbows.

Buy two girth covers that are washable sheepskin and then you can wash one and still use the other one. If the horse hasn't sweated much, you can brush the sweat (once it is dry) off of the sheepskin cover with a plastic curry comb.
 
Toughen up the skin in the girth area by rubbing in meths - if the skin is already broken then bathe with salt water until healed.

Keep girth and skin spotlessly clean.

I agree that a real sheepskin girth sleeve is far better than any synthetic sleeve.
 
I find that Stubben trevira cord girths are good for horses that get galls. They let the air circulate and are nice and wide
