Just wondering what girths you all ride in really?
Ive got a lovely black padded atherston girth, with the elastic on one side and I think it might be making my saddle unballanced, coz I always seem to sit slightly more to the right! Ive tried putting more pressure on the left and distributing my weight more evenly, but I still seem to be more to the right. I rode out last night, with my girth really loose and I seemed much more straight!

Do you think I should get a girth with elastic on both sides or one with no elastic at all??

The back lady I know hates these girths for exactly the reason you said, also they can be over-tightened.

Maybe a girth like the wintec ones with elastic in the middle?

Get a Thorowgood girth!!

I've just got one for my dressage saddle, and its great, really good. They are also known to stop saddles slipping as well.

I've also found that elastic to one side twists or pulls the saddle over. I'm not going to buy one with elastic to one side again. Will definitely buy another thorowgood one though, can't believe how good they are!

Have to agrre used to have a Atherstone girth, yes it looked good but it didn't help with the issue of the saddle slipping, the Thorowgood ones are brilliant and wouldn't change them now!

Er can I just point out one thing please.

I bought a 48 inch Wintec girth to replace my one ended leather elastic girth and it was way short. So please before you go and buy a girth measure your horse first and then make sure your girth will fit. My leather girth must have stretched quite a bit lol!

Does the Thoroughgood girth have any elastic on them at all?

Mine both have elastic on one side, but i have never had any problems with them pulling the saddle over

I also have a leather Jeffries stud girth with elastic on one side, and that's fine too...

My Thorowgood girth also has elastic on one side only. I have an Aerborn a size bigger which is exactly the same but with elastic both sides, and my horse likes it MUCH better! My saddle doesn't slip though, although possibly because I have the elastic on the right side so I do it up where there is no elastic - helps to keep it straight.

I think it must be the shape of the horse as well as the girth because my WB has a girth with one side elasticated and its completely fine, but if my cob wears it it makes the saddle slip right over. Not a nice feeling when you're galloping along, lol.

and I have quite an old one with elastic on both sides!

I am another Thorowgood fan...mine has elastic on one side and I have no problems with the saddle...but regardless of that, they are a great girth and comfy for the horse. I also like the fact that I can just hose it down and give it a quick brush over with a scrubbing brush and it is clean and dries quickly.

I have a lovely brown stubben padded girth with no elastic at either end, would always choose no elastic as apposed to elastic at one end as it makes saddle and back unbalanced. Doesn't get used much at the mo tho as I ride in the dressage most days- gp don't fit!

Throrowgood only have one side?! I have a specially made leather atherson girth with elastic both sides, and leather covered prolite padding.... it is lovely, just a bit on the short side for G...

Treadstone make a shaped leather girth with elastic both ends, my sister bought one for about £40 I think.

I have an amerigo leather girth which I absolutely love

it's just so pretty and soft.

A friend was talking to our saddler last week and he said that humans are not physically strong enough to over tighten a girth, elactic or no elastic.
