Right...happy hacker for two years, but suddenly I have got the comp bug eeeek! I have entered for a dressage test (only prelim 4 & 7) and have been in the mange practising like a demon - BUT I can not get my boy to keep on walking after the give and re-take of reins (he starts jogging) tried doing it gently, with singing ( I know not allowed but hell), scratching withers, nothing. He was an ex-racer and I wondered if it is a flash back to this??

Any help so I do not look like a TOTAL peanut would be appreciated.

Its been a while since ive done p4 and 7, but Im sure there is no give and retake of the reins. If you mean free walk on a long rein and he is jogging, try at first not to put your legs on and just let him stretch down, scratch his neck and tell him he's marvelous. Then once he has accepted that this is his time to relax, start using your legs slightly on his sides. This has worked for me in the early days. Its just practise im afraid. Good luck and I hope you enjoy.

it must be test 14 because i am going this were you circle at B then give and retake the reins after E.
maybe just try i relax. i have found that with my mare and now i relax then doing the test nothing goes wrong maybe different at the show but can only try.

Sorry, I do mean on a loose rein!! dooh? Keep leg on - not thought about so will try that, he is presuming the test now - so will have to do in sections and mix and match - SSM - its at Brack on 11th March and I am taking the skinny one!
