my foal wasnt doing as well as she should ..after 3 days her hocks looked slightly swollen and she wasnt as bright as she had been the day before ..not majorly but i could see it!! got the vet and as it was good friday it was not my normal vet..he gave antibiotics and then gave metacam for the swelling..as he injected her she went all floppy and looked like she was dying!! i panicked..the vet i think did as well ..but we managed to get her revived and back up suckling but she seemed more lethargic..she died the next morning ...i have since been doing my head in looking for answers..and i have seen on the metacam makers website that metacam should not be given to foals under 6 weeks of age please any advice would be appreciated as i have 5 more foals due

I am really sorry for the loss of your foal.

Unfortunately I have no experience of breeding/youngstock to be able to help but it might be an idea to copy your post in to the Breeding section of this forum, there may be someone who looks at that part of the forum that could be of some help to you.

Hope all goes well with your remaining foaling mares.
